Campaspe Shire Council is continuing to pursue the completion of the Breen Avenue section of the Kyabram walking and cycling path with approvals yet to be received from VicTrack.

General Manager Infrastructure, Dr Jason Deller, said the last section of the popular path running along Lake Road, South Boundary Road and Cooma Road, includes a 1,800 metre section along Breen Avenue. This final step closes the loop and will remove the need to use the busy roadway.

“The section of path on Breen Avenue requires approval from VicTrack, as the land is owned and managed by them,” Dr Deller said.

“Recently, VicTrack advised Council that the application was progressing, however impacts from COVID had slowed its progress.”

“While VicTrack has advanced the application, we have been advised it is now with VLine and the Department of Transport for comment.”

All organisations have been deeply affected by COVID lockdowns and staff movements, with operations only recently returning to normal.

Council has been advised with the current backlog of several hundred similar projects, it is difficult to provide a timeframe for any approvals.

“Until approvals are received, we are unable to progress preliminary designs as any approval may require changes to design,” Dr Deller said.

“We appreciate the high community interest in this project, particularly with walking and cycling increasing across the past year with COVID restrictions. Once further information is received, we will update the Kyabram community.”
