'Do the right thing' - Clean up Australia Day

Registrations for this year’s Clean Up Australia Day are now open and together with work colleagues, friends and family, we can all play our part to ‘Keep Australia Beautiful’.

Clean Up Australia Day events will take place on the following days:

• Business Clean Up Day – Tuesday, 2 March
• Schools Clean Up Day – Friday, 5 March
• Community Clean Up Day – Sunday, 7 March

Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Chrissy Weller said community members are invited to join forces and contribute to a clean and healthy natural environment via the program.

“Participating in one or more of these events is the perfect opportunity to join with other like-minded people to remove all the rubbish accumulating in your local park, bushland and waterways,” Ms Weller said.

If you wish to participate, registered sites for clean-up events on Sunday, 7 March in Campaspe are:

Rushworth	Meet at Rushworth Community House	10am – 1pm
Echuca	Banyule Forest Middle Track, meet at entrance to Banyule	9am – 12noon
Echuca	Murray River bank under Echuca Moama Bridge (Victorian side) meet at Visitor Information Centre, Echuca	10.30am – 12.30pm
Rochester	Campaspe River at caravan park, meet at the Red Brick Bridge	9.30am – 1.30pm

Many schools are hosting their own School Clean Up Days on and before Friday, 5 March including Tongala Primary School, Colbinabbin Preschool, Rochester Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School Echuca, St Mary’s Primary School Rushworth, St Joseph’s Primary Rochester and Stanhope Primary School.

“There are so many actions every one of us can take to help reduce the eight million tonnes of plastic entering our oceans worldwide each year, much of which comes via our local rivers and waterways, Ms Weller said.

Individuals or groups can register at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au or simply come to one of the registered events. Volunteers are asked to bring water, gloves, a hat and sturdy shoes.
