Rural Tree Scheme now open

Rural landowners can now purchase native seedlings for a subsided cost through Campaspe Shire Council’s Rural Tree Scheme.

General Manager Community, Mr Keith Oberin, said the scheme is a great way for rural landowners to improve their property’s landscape.

“Through the Scheme approximately 40 indigenous plant species are available that are well suited to the Campaspe climate and soil types,” Mr Oberin said.

“There is a good range of plants to choose from, ranging from groundcovers that grow to less than a metre, to trees that will grow more than 30 metres.”

“Council, along with local landcare groups, can provide advice on species selection and site preparation.”

All rural zoned ratepayers within Campaspe Shire are eligible to purchase limited numbers of subsidised plants through the Scheme. Property size determines the maximum amount of plants available.

Landowners are encouraged contact participating nurseries to negotiate pickup times prior to the end of June 2021. Autumn is generally the best time to arrange pickup and conduct planting.

Orders will be taken up to 1 November, or when the allocated funds have been exhausted. Order forms, including a full list of available species, are available on Council’s website, at customer service centres, or can be mailed out on request.
