Youth events take centre stage

Events to celebrate and engage Campaspe Shire’s young people are set to take the spotlight this Spring.

Mayor Chrissy Weller said the array of activities highlighted the importance of youth to our community, complementing the State Government’s ‘Youth Fest’ initiative in September.

“There is an exciting line-up of opportunities this month and in October, to encourage young people to get involved, showcase their talents, and build connections.

“Listening to our young people, inspiring and supporting them to take the lead in driving activities they want to partake in has been a key focus.”

Upcoming youth community events that Council is supporting:

  • 1st Kyabram Scouts ‘Girls Can Scout’ come and try day, with activities such as bike maintenance, campfire cooking, arts and craft and a scavenger hunt, to be held on 25 September
  • Rushy Active free pizza and movie night for young people aged 12 to 25, hosted by Rushworth Community House, to be held on 11 October
  • School holiday activities hosted by Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, to be held on 19 September to 1 October
  • A ‘spooktacular’ Halloween-themed disco led by Lockington Youth Group and Lockington Business Centre, to be held on 28 October

Mayor Weller said the timely relaunch of Campaspe Youth Action Group this month, formerly the Youth Advisory Group, will assist in creating a vision for future events.

“The Youth Action Group will empower and elevate young people in our community, by developing youth-led events.

“The benefit is two-fold, it shows our young people their views are valued, and it inspires them to help with events, making our shire a better place to be.

“It is wonderful to see the diversity of events across the shire, and this really is thanks to input from youth throughout the districts.”

A number of community-led events will be operating throughout the shire for ‘Youth Fest’, including the inaugural Kyabram Blue Light Skate, BMX and Scooter competition on 17 September.
