Groves Weir Bridge

Level 2 and 3 inspections were carried out on the bridge in 2020 as well as an Engineer’s Review of the Level 3 reports. As a result, the bridge was load-limited to 12 tonnes. This was then increased to 25 tonnes following the completion of crack-sealing works in April 2021.

After much community interest, in July 2020, Council approved a deck-overlay, barriers and associated infrastructure for the bridge. At the completion of these upgrade works, the load limit on the bridge could be removed however the load limit will remain in place for the road until the load capacity of a Goulburn Murray Water bridge further north, can be confirmed as adequate.

Project works include:

  • Demolition and tree removal as required to support the new works
  • Retaining walls to the road edges adjacent to bridge abutments
  • Form, reinforce and pour a concrete deck overlay
  • Reconstruct existing road approaches to new height of bridge
  • Installation of new bridge and road approach barriers
  • Signage and miscellaneous works as required

Works are currently underway, to be completed in September 2022. The bridge is closed with detours in place.

Road users and pedestrians are to use alternative routes during construction.
