Campaspe Shire Council, with support from the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority and State Emergency Service, is about to start a flood study of Kyabram and its immediate surrounds. The study will be overseen by a Project Review Group comprising senior officers from the three organisations.
Expressions of interest are sought for the Flood Study Community Reference Panel. The panel’s role is to ensure all important aspects of the study and flooding as it affects Kyabram are considered. It will provide a focus for discussion of technical, social, economic and environmental issues and a link to the community in relation to flood risk and management issues.
It is proposed to appoint community representatives with close connections to the areas of:
- Kyabram Drainage Advisory Committee – 2 members;
- Kyabram township community – 3 members;
- Kyabram rural south / west / Mosquito Depression landowner group – 2 members;
- Kyabram rural north / east landowner group – 2 members; and
- Kyabram recreational and public lands group – 2-4 members.
In addition, two local ward councillors and representatives from the various public authorities with technical knowledge, infrastructure or interests in the area will also be appointed.
