Clean Up with Council
Sites are registered, teams getting ready as our shire prepares to be all cleaned up on Sunday, 6 March for Clean Up Australia Day.
Registrations are still open to register your town for an official Clean Up Australia Day event with Echuca, Kyabram and Rushworth already registered and seeking volunteers to help Clean Up their towns on the day.
Campaspe Spokesperson for Environment and Waste, Cr Ian Maddison, said volunteering even a few hours could make a difference.
“Clean Up Australia Day is the perfect opportunity for the community to come together and help reduce the pollution and waste in our environment,” he said.
“Volunteering any spare time, no matter how short will make a difference to the success of the day. If everybody chips in a little bit, big jobs will get done. Think about the places you enjoy walking, running or picnicking and the public green areas in your community – these could all use your help and Clean Up Australia Day is the perfect opportunity to join with friends and Clean Up.”
Within the Shire of Campaspe, the following sites have been registered:
Kyabram – Kyabram Memorial Gardens – Saturday, 5 March from 10:30am – 12pm
Kyabram – Scout Hall, Racecourse Road – Thursday, 3 March 6.30pm – 8pm
Echuca – Banyule, Middle Track – Sunday, 6 March from 10am – 12pm
Echuca – Victoria Park, Scenic Drive – Sunday, 6 March from 10am – 12pm
Rushworth – High Street near BBQ area - Sunday, 6 March from 8:30am – 11am
Volunteers are asked to meet at their chosen site where bags will be provided on the above dates. Bring water, gloves, a hat, sturdy shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen. Lunch will follow at each site around noon.
Registrations are now open to join Team Clean Up in 2016, or groups may also register their own site. To register go to http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au or call 1800 282 329.
“It’s not too late to get involved, simply go to the website to register a site online, find a local site where you can register as a volunteer or simply turn up at the sites mentioned above on the day and register as a volunteer," Cr Maddison said.
“Bendigo Field and Game Group have already helped our community Clean Up – running a Clean-up event Saturday 6 February at Richardson’s Lagoon in Torrumbarry. They collected four trailer loads of littered material. It really is something the whole community can do and it benefits both the environment and your health. It is a great opportunity to get out and about with your group.”
In addition to Clean Up Australia Day a number of businesses are participating in Business Clean Up Day on Wednesday, 2 March.
