Applications are now open for organisations supporting senior residents within the Campaspe Shire, to apply for this year’s Seniors Grants.
Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said the Seniors Grants Program forms part of the strategic direction within the council plan to build strong and engaged communities. The program provides donations of up to $1,000 to incorporated organisations within Campaspe Shire that deliver programs or events aimed at increasing the health, wellbeing and social connectedness of older citizens.
“Projects could include the establishment of social groups, exercise programs, movie nights or special classes,” Cr Weston said.
“Research shows that older people have fewer social contacts and can often feel lonely in their communities and are also more at risk of suffering from ill health,”
“With residents aged 60 years and over accounting for 25 per cent of the total population in Campaspe, council is committed to financially assisting community groups offering opportunities for seniors via the program,” Cr Weston added.
Submitting an application does not guarantee a grant. Applications must meet eligibility criteria set out in the Terms and Conditions found on application forms and will be assessed by a panel of council staff who will then decide on the outcome of each application.
“Preference will be given to projects that demonstrate a commitment to positive aging concepts and with the annual Seniors Festival coming up in October, now is the perfect time to apply for a grant to assist with costs of an activity,” Cr Weston said.
Applications are open now, and will close on Monday, 28 August 2017. Successful applicants are expected to be notified in mid-September in preparation for Seniors Week in October.
Further information and application forms are available from council’s website – www.campaspe.vic.gov.au or contact Stacy Williams on 5481 2870.
