5 December 2018 - Media release
Campaspe Shire Council is actively recruiting young people aged 12 – 25 across the community to join the 2019 Youth Advisory Group (YAG).
Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said the YAG is a vibrant group that has delivered to council, the youth perspective on a number of important projects and topics impacting the community.
“2019 is shaping up to be another busy year at council and becoming a member of the YAG is a great way for the youth in our shire to have a voice in local government decision making,” Cr Weston said.
“The Youth Advisory Group is part of council’s ongoing commitment to work collaboratively with young people in our community, in line with the adopted Campaspe Youth Charter,” Cr Weston said.
The YAG has been set up to advise council on items relevant to youth in Campaspe. Members of the group are given the opportunity to work closely with staff and councillors to add their input into projects and developments over a 12 month period.
YAG members will have the opportunity to:
- provide input on council projects and interact with councillors
- undertake training to develop professional skills
- attend events including the Victorian Youth Summit and other youth conferences
- shine a light on issues facing young people in Campaspe.
“The current YAG members have developed their leadership and teamwork skills, contributing to many council topics throughout the year and are to be congratulated on their commitment.”
“It’s a great opportunity for young people to learn how to be part of a committee, develop an understanding of governance and local government and make some great friends along the way,” Cr Weston said.
