Applying for a position
To apply for a position with Campaspe Shire Council, you must follow the steps outlined below to be considered for the position.
- Read the position description carefully. If you believe you meet the key selection criteria, you can apply for the position.
- Address each the key selection criteria as part of your application. You must write a short response to each of the criteria in the position description. This can be a separate document within your application.
- Write a clear, concise cover letter which outlines how your experience and qualifications make you the right person for the job.
- Make sure your resume is relevant and up to date.
- Email your completed application in Word or PDF format to [email protected]. Ensure you include:
- a cover letter;
- your resume; and
- a separate document addressing all of the key selection criteria
- If you want to apply for more than one position, you must complete a separate application for each position.
What happens next?
All applications will be acknowledged by email.
After the nominated closing date, we will make a short list of candidates for interview and call them to arrange an interview time. This generally take two weeks.
Unsuccessful candidates will be contacted by mail, informing them that unfortunately, their application has been unsuccessful.
The interview process
A selection panel, usually comprised of two or three people, will interview selected applicants. The panel follows a structured process, asking all applicants the same set of questions. The questions are developed to assess how well each applicant matches the given criteria. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions throughout and at the end of the interview and are encouraged to think of some questions prior to interview. The panel may follow up or explore particular issues that arise from individual applicants.
On average an interview usually takes about 30 minutes.
Depending on the position, you may be asked to provide:
- Two reference checks
- Copies of relevant qualifications
- If required, Working with Children Check and police check documentation
Candidates, who have been unsuccessful following their interview, will receive a phone call and feedback, usually within ten days of the interview.
The purpose of a pre-employment medical is to ensure that a prospective employee is physically capable of performing the inherent requirements of the position they’re being recruited for.
The decision to require an applicant to undergo a Pre-Employment Medical as a condition of appointment is based on the inherent requirements and the occupational hazards identified for the position.
If a position requires a Pre-Employment Medical, candidates will be presented with the Physical Requirements Matrix so they can assess their own suitability for the position before choosing to apply.
If a candidate or employee has been identified through a medical examination process as unable to undertake inherent requirements without adjustment, council will consider suggested adjustments in accordance with Council’s Reasonable Adjustment Policy. However, if a reasonable adjustment cannot be made then the employee will not proceed further in the recruitment process.
