Campaspe Shire Council will again support VicHealth’s ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, encouraging women to give physical activity a try or return to exercise after a break, during This Girl Can Week from 23 – 29 March.

Regulatory & Community Services General Manager, Mr Paul McKenzie said with one in five woman not engaged in any physical activity, This Girl Can aims to support women by providing them with opportunities to get out there and get active.

“This Girl Can –Victoria has had enormous success getting women up and moving without the fear of judgement that stops so many from having a go,” Mr McKenzie said.

Council has been successful in securing a $14,900 VicHealth grant to promote This Girl Can with the Aquatic and Leisure team at Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre (EWMAC) hosting a range of fun, free activities tailored to women and girls who want to get active but aren’t sure about how to take the first step.

“We are aiming to provide support to all women in getting active and embracing a healthy lifestyle, no matter what age or ability,” Mr McKenzie said.

The calendar of events will kick off with a free Active Women Expo at the Echuca Stadium, 244 High Street, on Saturday, 21 March from 12 – 5pm.

Local community groups and sporting organisations will provide information on their services at the expo and there will be fun and inclusive demonstrations with the opportunity to participate along with giveaways and guest speakers.

During the This Girl Can Week, an exercise program will run in EWMAC’s multi-purpose room with the privacy of blinds. Participants have the option to stop whenever they feel the need to and are encouraged to wear whatever they feel comfortable in. Program as follows:
