Council seeks MAV support for ‘betterment’ funding

Council has endorsed a motion for inclusion at the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) State Council Meeting to be held Friday 13 October 2023. The motion calls on the Victorian and Australian Governments to commit to providing full disaster recovery funding to enable the repair of public assets, such as roads, damaged by natural disasters, to current day standards to provide improved disaster resilience. The current funding arrangements only allow like-for-like replacement or repair. A commitment by the state and federal governments to provide this ‘betterment’ funding would allow councils to submit claims to fund improvements to their assets so they are better protected against damage from natural disasters into the future.
