Mayoral and Councillor Allowances Confirmed

Allowances for the Mayor and individual councillors for the Council term 2020-2024 have been approved. Allowances are paid to councillors for performing their responsibilities and duties as elected officials.

The mayoral allowance is set at $81,204 per annum (plus $7,714 being the equivalent of the superannuation guarantee) and the councillor allowance is set at $26,245 per annum (plus an additional $2,493 being the equivalent of the superannuation guarantee). These amounts reflect the pre-existing allowances for Campaspe councillors and are within the permissible range as determined by the Victorian Government.

The allowances will be in place until such time as the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal determines the allowances in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020.

New Load Limit and Works Approved for Grogan’s Bridge

The load limit for Grogan’s Bridge in Runnymede has been increased from 5 tonne to 20 tonne, following further testing on the condition of the bridge, its load-bearing capacity and the required scope of works needed to address identified defects.

The new load limit of 20 tonne means heavier vehicles can now use the bridge, including CFA tankers.

The bridge was originally listed in the 2020/21 Capital Works Program as a renewal project with construction costs estimated at $201,000. However, modifications to the scope of works because of the bridge load reassessment, means the bridge can be brought up to standard with maintenance works at an estimated cost of $30,000.

Three Community Event Sponsorship Grants Approved

An amount of $6,500 in community event sponsorship grants has been approved for events to be run by three Kyabram-based community groups. All the events are expected to attract participants and visitors from across the region, bringing a welcome boost to the local economy through increased patronage at local accommodation and hospitality venues, tourism outlets and other local traders.

Kyabram AH&P Society Inc. will receive $1,000 in sponsorship to assist with the cost of children’s entertainment at the Kyabram Annual Spring Show to be held on 16 October 2021.

Kyabram Parkland Golf Club Inc. will receive $2,500 in sponsorship towards hosting the Victorian Par 3 Championships to be held from 5-13 June 2021.

Kyabram RV Country Music Festival (Kyabram Development Committee Inc.) will receive $3,000 in sponsorship towards hosting the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival to be held from 3-7 November 2021.

The Community Event Sponsorship program helps community organisations, groups and associations to run events that bring people together and contribute to the community vibrancy and economic resilience of the Shire of Campaspe.
