Campaspe Shire Council’s draft Domestic Animal Management Plan has been released and is now open for community comment.

The 2021-2025 Domestic Animal Management Plan aims to implement a range of initiatives to improve animal management.

For example, creating environments where people and animals coexist safely, protecting the community from feral and nuisance animals, educating the community on responsible pet ownership, along with many other objectives.

General Manager Community, Keith Oberin said the plan would be a valuable document for all animal owners.

“Domestic animals play a significant part in our lives, so it’s important the community is able to contribute feedback on our management plan.”

“The plan goes through everything from how we handle animal attacks, to how we regulate domestic animal businesses. It stipulates what proactive programs and educational resources we deliver to the community, such as responsible owner brochures in adoption packs and microchipping services at the Campaspe Animal Shelter.”

“In the 2020/21 financial year, 7,881 dogs and 2,538 cats were registered in Campaspe Shire. To all those pet owners, we encourage you to read the plan and submit any feedback you may have.”

Submissions close Wednesday, 22 December.
