Rochester District War Memorial Pool

The Rochester District War Memorial Pool was facing multiple issues prior to the 2022 floods, but these were exacerbated following the flood event with further issues arising within the pool shell, building, and operational infrastructure. The pool had reached its end-of-life and no longer met industry or community standards.

Following extensive community consultation in 2023, Council commissioned a functional brief which included community feedback. In March 2024 Council allocated funding to design a new aquatic facility in the same location as the current pool. The design process has started.

Council allocated further funding to demolish the existing pool and landscape the area in order return it to public access space. This is an interim measure until funding can be sourced to build a new aquatic facility.

The demolition works are well under way and are expected to finish in late March 2025. To lessen disruption to the area, Council is attempting to landscape immediately after demolition is completed. All demolition works, minus normal maintenance, should be complete by the end of March 2025.
