The Goulburn Valley Designated Area Migration Agreement (GV DAMA) opened for applications in March, allowing local employers to sponsor migrant workers and provide a pathway to permanent residency.

Campaspe Shire Council Mayor, Chrissy Weller said interested employers would be able to find out more about the DAMA Program at an upcoming information session hosted by the Department of Home Affairs.

“What we’ve been hearing from the business community is that local workers are hard to come by. This program provides employers with the opportunity to sponsor skilled and semi-skilled workers from overseas.

“These workers are not replacing local workers, they’re simply filling vacancies that businesses have been unable to fill for quite a while. This lack of employees has been impacting many industries such as health, agriculture, and education.

“Experts from the Department of Home Affairs will be visiting Campaspe Shire to inform employers of the process and to answer any specific questions.

“You will be able to learn about the process, types of VISAs and the different types, the approved occupations, and what your responsibilities would be.”

The information session will be held on Monday, 23 May at 12.30 – 1.30pm in the Echuca Library Meeting Room.
