Campaspe libraries create COVID memory box

The Campaspe Regional Library Service is capturing a moment in time and is calling on the community to help by sharing COVID-19 stories unique to them.

Campaspe Shire Council General Manager Development, Paul McKenzie said the coronavirus pandemic has affected everyone’s daily life. Creating a memory book of stories from around our region will enable Campaspe library patrons to better understand the true impact of the virus in years to come.

“We would like Campaspe residents to share images and stories of their experiences during this difficult time, particularly around issues such as border control, impact on business and education, restrictions to daily life, cancelled events and the like,” Mr McKenzie said.

Children, students, families, businesses, clubs/community groups and older residents - everyone is encouraged to contribute to the memory box.

Material collected will signify what people are doing now or have been doing over the last few months and could include photographs, illustrations, diary entries, lists, poems or letters.

Photos and stories of local people during this challenging time will inform generations to come. Campaspe library staff have started the collection with photos of how the libraries have had to adapt to change.

“Hard copy documents are preferred as we don’t know what the digital world will look like in years to come,” Mr McKenzie said.

“We also request that when submitting content, permission is provided to allow Campaspe Libraries to retain, curate and exhibit the work in the future,” Mr McKenzie added.
