With recent polling indicating that the cost of living is currently the major concern for Australians, many holiday-makers are choosing to stay closer to home this year – but for those lucky enough to live within a couple of hours’ drive of Echuca-Moama, the perfect summer destination is well within reach.
The area has a wide range of activities and attractions for all ages, and a new campaign has recently been launched to help showcase the region and encourage visitors to discover its delights.
The Visit Echuca Moama campaign – a collaboration between the Campaspe Shire and Murray River councils – highlights the unique experiences the area has to offer visitors and locals alike.
Enjoy the mighty Murray River
Make the most of the peak summer season with activities on the Murray.
Why not experience a cruise on board the PS Pevensey? “The Pev” is an authentic steam-driven paddle steamer which offers one-hour river cruises departing from the Echuca Wharf daily at 10:15am, 11:30am, 1:30pm and 2:45pm.
These cruises offer a relaxing and yet engaging way to enjoy the beauty of the Murray River while experiencing a unique mode of travel from a bygone era.
Families can also enjoy stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, or a relaxing picnic and swim at Moama Beach.
Explore land-based adventures
Back on land, you can visit Kyabram Fauna Park to get up close to Australia’s wonderful native animals, test your science skills at Twisted, and have tons of fun at Aqua Island.
Enjoy a day at the Echuca races, or live music at the Moosic Muster in Girgarre. A short drive from Echuca will reward you with beautiful silo art, creative laneways, murals and more.
Indulge in local delights
Don't miss our local markets, where you can savour local produce, food, drinks, and quirky locally-made items.
Stroll down Echuca’s famous High Street shopping strip, where cafes, restaurants and bars serve up meals and drinks to tempt all tastes and a variety of boutiques and specialty shops offer something to interest everyone.
Experience the area’s uniqueness
The historic Port of Echuca remains a major drawcard for all, with its historic wharf, museum and paddle steamers offering a glimpse of a bygone era and a chance to learn about the port’s important place in our history.
