Council is continuing to asses and maintain its infrastructure and will be testing sports grounds lights across the shire during this month.

Infrastructure Services General Manager, Jason Deller said staff will be conducting luminosity tests and the community may see lights being switched on and off at various sites.

“Rest assured sport or other gatherings will not be occurring in line with current restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic,” Mr Deller said.

“There are State Government guidelines that require sports grounds to have particular lighting levels to meet Australian Standards.”

“The level of lighting and spill level requirements at each sports ground vary depending on what it’s used for, including training and level of competition.”

The sports grounds that will be tested are:

  • Colbinabbin Recreation Reserve including the netball courts
  • Girgarre Recreation Reserve including the netball courts
  • Kyabram Recreation Reserve including the netball courts
  • Kyabram Northern Oval including the netball courts
  • Lockington Recreation Reserve including the netball courts
  • Rochester Lawn Tennis Club
  • Tongala Recreation Reserve including the multipurpose courts
  • Victoria Park Reserve Echuca including the multipurpose courts
  • Echuca South Recreation Reserve including the netball courts

The testing will start in early April and will take approximately three weeks and will ensure the lighting at sports grounds continues to meet the needs of the community and Australian Standards.
