Congratulations to Federal Members
Council noted an acknowledgement from the Mayor congratulating Federal members Sam Birrell MP and Lisa Chesters MP on their successful election to the House of Representatives in the Divisions of Nicholls and Bendigo respectively.
Election Report from the Victorian Electoral Commission’s (VEC)
Council noted a report of the 2024 General Election provided by the Victorian Electoral Commission. which provided a comprehensive overview of the 2024 local government election process, highlighting both the VEC’s responsibilities as well as the significant preparatory and compliance work undertaken by Council. It also outlined the challenges faced due to late legislative changes and compressed timelines, while detailing Council’s efforts to promote participation and support candidates, particularly through targeted information sessions and community engagement.
Grant applications to go ahead for Davis Road, Patho, and Two Tree Road, Carag Carag
Council has authorised officers to prepare grant applications for Davis Road, Patho, and Two Tree Road, Carag Carag, under the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program Tranche 3. It has also endorsed co-contributions of $945,528 for Two Tree Road and $630,132 for Davis Road. Davis Road provides the only heavy vehicle access to the state-significant Patho Landfill, while Two Tree Road is a vital route to Biomix, an organic composting facility. Both roads experienced access issues during the October 2022 floods. Although Council’s 2024 funding application was unsuccessful due to high statewide demand, these roads remain key priorities in its Federal advocacy platform, Advocating for a Brighter Tomorrow. Project scopes have been revised to reflect alternative funding sources and improve the likelihood of success.
Cr Cook to represent Campaspe on the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance (GMCA)
Council nominated Councillor Zoe Cook to be the Campaspe Shire Council representative to the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance (GMCA). The GMCA, previously known as the Goulburn Broken Greenhouse Alliance, is a membership-based alliance of 13 local governments, the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, Northeast Catchment Management Authority and DEECA which responds to climate change through innovative projects and research.
Event appreciation received
Council received a number of messages of appreciation from the community, with particular thanks from event organisers. The Kyabram RV Country Music Festival 2024 presented Council with a certificate of appreciation for its valued support, while the Moama Water Sports Club and the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club of Australia both expressed gratitude for Council’s assistance in delivering successful events. The Riverboats Music Festival team also acknowledged Council’s ongoing support, highlighting the 2025 festival’s strong attendance and significant economic impact with the festival generating $3.569 million in regional economic benefit, with 94.8% of patrons indicating they are likely to return in 2026.
