Fire Danger Period

Fire Danger Period.png

Each year the Country Fire Authority (CFA) declares a Fire Danger Period.

This is a period of time (up to six or seven months) during the warmest part of the year when the CFA restricts the use of fire in the community.

The Fire Danger Period in Campaspe began on Monday, 13 November 2023. This means we are in the Fire Danger Period.

The Fire Danger Period will end on Monday, 8 April 2024 at 1am.

You can find further information on the CFA website

When does the Fire Danger Period start?

This depends on the amount of rain, grassland curing rate and other local conditions. It is different for each municipality (council area).

The CFA will declare when Campaspe's Fire Danger Period will begin.

It may be as early as October in some council areas.

When does the Fire Danger Period end?

As above, this will depend on local conditions. The CFA will determine when the Fire Danger Period can end.

It may be as late as May in some council areas.

What restrictions are in place during the Fire Danger Period?

Once the Fire Danger Period has been declared, fire restrictions come into force. This means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements.

If you don't obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted.

Find out more about restrictions and what you can and can't do at the CFA website.

Can I burn off in Campaspe during the Fire Danger Period?

No. Burning off is prohibited on all properties, regardless of size, during the declared Fire Danger Period. Only in exceptional circumstances permits may be granted.
