The Campaspe Animal Shelter provides a temporary home for lost and stray animals, and animals needing a new lifetime home. The shelter returned to council management in November 2016, allowing improved coordination of domestic animal services across the shire.

The facility takes in dogs and cats that have been lost, surrendered or seized, and provides housing, activity and veterinary care. Many of these animals will be returned to their owners. Importantly, the shelter also helps to find new lifetime homes for those animals without one.
